Dolce & Gabbana Villa
On the island of Stromboli, north of Sicily, perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, stands the summer villa of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
The designers bought their first home here in the early ’90s. Gradually, they combined three neighboring buildings into one large residence. On the outside, it features white walls, flat roofs, wooden beams, and terraces—all traditional for this area.
There’s no hint of what’s going on inside. Yet behind the doors of this modest home, style oozes out in the finest Dolce & Gabbana tradition. Green, yellow, and blue bedrooms. The walls and floors of the living room are made up of hundreds of hand-painted majolica tiles.
Lace curtains. Antique wardrobes. Huge crystal chandeliers. Pillows and sofas upholstered in “Dolce” fabrics featuring flowers, fruits, and Sicilian motifs. The living area is 480 m², plus another 800 m² of terraces overlooking the sea.
The house has seven separate bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The villa has its own private path leading directly to the sea. So, on one side is the Mediterranean Sea, and on the other is Stromboli Volcano. It is one of the most active volcanoes in Europe.
Locals call it Iddu—“He.” In 2020, Dolce & Gabbana decided to sell the villa for €6 million. It took two years for the property to find a buyer. I love the contrast of this house.
On the outside, monastic white walls set against black volcanic rock; on the inside, pure Sicilian maximalism: lemons, mosaics, gold, blue walls, crystal, and tapestries. It’s all there at once.
