House of rapper Drake in Toronto
While I'm inspecting the art of Venice, I suggest a stroll through the Drake House in Toronto.
The rapper's mansion is located in the Bridle Path neighborhood, which is Canada's most expensive residential area. It's the local version of Beverly Hills. It's got huge lots, quiet, woods, a gated atmosphere and billionaire neighbors.
Drake bought the lot in 2015 for $6.7 million. On the land stood an old house that was demolished to build everything from scratch for the artist's personal project. The house was named "The Embassy." The name itself shows the scale of ambition.
The area of the mansion is 4,650 square meters. To understand, this is the size of a good boutique hotel or a small palace.
The author of the project is Canadian designer Farris Raffauli. His goal was to make the house timeless. Drake himself said he wanted a mansion that would last a hundred years and be his legacy.
The architectural style can be described as bozar in a modern reading. French ceremonial classics. Lots of limestone, bronze, marble, rare woods and metal.
A living room with 13 meter ceilings - on the level of the lobby of an expensive hotel. In the center is a giant chandelier made of 20,000 hand-cut crystals.
In the living room stands a custom-made Bösendorfer concert grand piano painted by artist Takashi Murakami.
Drake's master bedroom is 300 feet. It's like a nice apartment. In the center is a large bed weighing under a ton and a 1,800-pound solid black marble bathtub.
There's a two-story walk-in closet that houses a collection of Birkin handbags. Drake's been collecting them for years as a gift for his future wife. But he hasn't chosen a companion yet. It's gonna be a good match.
A separate part of the closet is dedicated to the artist's awards and a collection of sports jerseys autographed by NBA legends.
The house has its own basketball arena. Not just a ring in the backyard. It's a full-fledged gym with a giant pyramidal skylight in the ceiling.
Drake also made a professional music studio. The chill area has a pool, hot tub, massage room, exercise room and home theater.
Estimates of the home's value vary. But the most common figure in the media is $100 million. Canada's most expensive apartment building.
