In 2016, Jennifer Lopez bought one of the most unusual estates in Bel Air. She paid $28 million for the villa and the property.
The house is tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac in the heart of one of Los Angeles’s most expensive neighborhoods. Three hectares of woodland and a lush garden with a stream. For Los Angeles, this isn’t just a large lot—it’s an entire private nature park.
The main house was built in 1940 and designed by architect Samuel Marx. Cream-colored facades. Massive natural stone. Dark wooden beams. Floor-to-ceiling steel windows. Terraces entwined with greenery. Inside, high ceilings, carved doors, a wide curved staircase, and ten fireplaces.
The central living room is also arranged around a massive fireplace. A grand piano and a home bar are situated nearby. The space opens onto a wide stone terrace. The boundary between the house and the garden almost disappears.
The enormous kitchen is more reminiscent of a hall in an old Provençal estate. Stone walls, a ceiling with exposed beams, several kitchen islands, vintage chandeliers, and a separate breakfast area under a glass roof. Nearby are the formal dining room and a less formal family living room with access to the pool.
The main house covers 1,200 square meters. It features nine bedrooms and thirteen bathrooms. In her private wing, Jennifer has her own library, two walk-in closets, and a sun-drenched bathroom opening onto a terrace. The house also features a study, a massage room, a billiards room, a game room, a gym, and a home theater that seats thirty people.
But the most interesting part is outside. The property features an infinity pool, a hot tub, koi ponds, waterfalls, an organic vegetable garden, and a mini-golf course. Hidden among the trees is an open-air amphitheater that seats 100 people.
And finally, there’s a small private lake with its own beach and showers. In fact, Jennifer could have hosted a concert, a movie screening, and a beach party without ever leaving the property.
In the winter of 2023, Lopez put her villa up for sale for $42 million. By that time, she had remarried Ben Affleck, and the couple was looking for a new home together. A few months later, they would buy a huge estate in Beverly Hills for nearly $61 million. It took eight months to find a buyer for the old villa.
In October 2023, the deal closed for $34 million. Jennifer’s gross profit from the sale was 20%.
Soon after, the media identified the new owners: Taiwanese-American billionaire Walter Wan and his wife. He is the president of North America’s largest manufacturer of plastic pipes.
That’s the story of Jennifer Lopez’s villa, where she managed to create her own little village in the middle of bustling Los Angeles—complete with a forest, a lake, a beach, and an amphitheater that seats 100 people.
